International Bank Account Number (IBAN)

International Bank Account Number (IBAN)

Dear valued customers,

Please be informed that the use of the International Bank Account Number (IBAN) has started from June 30, 2020, according to the instructions of the Central Bank of Egypt.

Q. WHAT IS IBAN?

A. IBAN (International bank account number) is a standard international numbering system which does not replace your bank's account number but it is only meant to add additional information/digits to your account to help reduce errors and/or delays when sending/receiving international payments.

Q. Why IBAN will be used in transfers?

A. IBAN is an accurate account number and internationally accepted that facilitates funds transfer more accurately.

Q. When will the bank apply the IBAN?

A. Effective 30 June 2020, customers will be required to start using IBAN in sending or receiving local and international transfers.

Q. How can I know my IBAN?

A. You can know your IBAN by visiting the nearest branch or by calling NBG Call Center 16272.

Q. Is there any changes to my account number?

A. Your existing account number remains without any changes. IBAN is a different electronic format of your account number that will be used only if you are making or receiving any local or international transfers.

Q. What types of transactions require an IBAN?

A. Sending or receiving any financial transfer from any bank account inside or outside Egypt to your bank account will require the use of the international bank account number.

Q. What will happen to my transfers after June 2020?

A. Effective 30 June 2020, it will be necessary to use IBAN when receiving or sending local and international transfers from or to your account. However, using both account number and IBAN will be accepted until IBAN is fully launched by the Central Bank of Egypt across the country, after which no transfers will be accepted without using IBAN.
